The Chariton Varsity baseball team got their second straight win with an 11-1 win over Twin Cedars in five innings at Milledge Field in Chariton Wednesday, June 22.
It was Senior Night for Chariton and Chariton’s two seniors, Max Aulwes and Nathan Anderson, were honored with their parents in between the JV and Varsity games.
With the win, Chariton moved to 7-12 overall. With the loss Twin Cedars moved to 8-10.
Twin Cedars scored once in the top of the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. Chariton responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth and six runs in the fifth to end the game in five innings.
Anderson pitched the whole game and got the win on the mound. In five innings he gave up one unearned run on two hits while striking out six and walking three. Chariton committed two errors defensively.
Chariton had 10 hits at the plate along with two strikeouts and eight walks. Aulwes played at third base and went 2-2 with two singles and two runs scored, two RBIs and one walk. Designated hitter Aidan Mundt went 2-4 with two singles and one run scored.
Shortstop Mason Smith went 1-3 with a triple, a run scored, two RBIs, and a walk. Right fielder Blane Wallace went 1-3 with a single, a run scored, an RBI and a walk. Second baseman Kasyn Paige went 1-3 with a single, two RBIs and a walk.
Anderson went 1-2 with a single, two runs scored, one RBI, two walks and he stole a base. Catcher Kaleb Offenburger went 1-2 with a single, a walk and he reached base on error once. Left fielder Josh Desmond went 1-2 with a single, two runs scored, one RBI and one walk.
Center fielder Brock Oxenreider went 0-3. Jace Gwinn scored two runs as a courtesy runner and he stole a base. Logan Shore played at first base but he didn’t bat.
Chariton had 14 put outs as a team and one assist. Offenburger led the team in put outs with six. Wallace had three and Paige and Desmond had two apiece. Smith had one put out. Shore had the team’s only assist.
