The Chariton 7th grade football team ended their season with a 38-0 loss to Sigourney Keota at Oskaloosa Thursday, Oct. 7.
“We were scheduled to play Centerville for our last game, but they had to cancel out on us. So, we met Sigourney Keota at a neutral site in Oskaloosa. We started out flat, and had people playing in different positions. We also turned the ball over several times, and Sigourney took advantage of our miscues. Connor Shore, who normally plays quarterback, did a nice job running the ball at the tailback position. Grady Smyser filled in for Shore at quarterback and did a nice job on short notice,” Chariton Head Coach Chad Darrah said.
Shore led Chariton in rushing with 80 yards on 16 carries. Shore also played at quarterback some when Chariton wanted to throw the ball and he went 1-4 for 20 yards with one interception. Smyser caught one pass for 20 yards.
Defensively, Shore led the team in tackles with four. Isaac Baird, Carver Dixon, Jaydon Narber, Kolter Bingham, Brody Krutsinger and Chase Cobb had two tackles apiece. Cale Abbas and Smyser each had one tackle.
“This team was fun to coach. The numbers aren’t great, but there are some good players that will blend nicely with the class ahead of it. If we count the game with Centerville as a victory, after this loss we finish with a final record of 3-3-1,” Coach Darrah said.
