The Chariton JV football team used a great team effort to beat Saydel, 18-12, for their first win of the season at Chariton Monday, Oct. 5.

“We had a great team performance tonight. We finally played four good quarters of football. I’m proud of the boys, it was nice for them to get their first win of the year,” Chariton JV Head Coach Josh Snook said.

After a scoreless first quarter, each team scored once in the second to make it 6-6 at halftime. Chariton scored once in the third and held Saydel scoreless to make it 12-6 Chariton heading into the final period. Chariton scored one touchdown in the fourth and they held Saydel to one score to hold on for the win.

Chariton amassed 249 yards of offense including 175 yards rushing on 30 carries. Sam Primakov rushed for 87 yards on 18 carries. Cameron Phipps rushed for 62 yards on five carries and two touchdowns. Roman Ilyenko rushed for 20 yards on five carries. Nathan Anderson rushed for six yards on two carries.

At quarterback, Anderson went 3-7 for 74 yards and one touchdown. Wyatt Chipp caught three passes for 74 yards and one touchdown.
