The Chariton Varsity volleyball team fell to Albia, 3-1, in an exciting conference match at the Charger Dome Tuesday night, Sept. 21.
The sets were competitive and action-packed with a strong Charger crowd behind the home team and cheering them on.
Albia won the first set 25-15 and the second set 25-16. The first set was close early and Albia built a 21-14 lead later and went on to win. Chariton led 5-4 early in the second set and came back to tie it at eight apiece after being down 8-5.
The Lady Chargers came back to win a tight battle in the third set, 25-23. Albia won the fourth set 25-16 to take the match.
“Albia had a solid blocking team which forced us to change up our rhythm and that took a little bit of time to adjust. The girls played hard in each set and played them closer than the scores indicated. I was very proud of our effort,” Chariton Head Coach Christopher Watkins said.
In serving, Grace Watkins went 17-17 with one ace. Addie McGee went 10-10.
In hitting, Avery Hall had 17 kills and one block. Caci Goldensoph had seven kills.
McGee led the team in digs with 14. Layne Braby had eight digs. Lexi Smyser had 11 assists.
