A big game offensively and a big seventh inning helped lift the Chariton Varsity baseball team to a 10- come from behind9 win over Davis County at Bloomfield this past Thursday night.
With the win, Chariton moved to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Chariton pounded out 13 hits at the plate and five players had two-hit games for the Chargers. Shortstop Jackson Curnutte went 2-3 with two singles, two RBIs, two walks and a stolen base. Left fielder Will Swarthout went 2-3 with two singles, a run scored, three RBIs and two walks.
Center fielder Dylan Cain went 2-5 with two singles, a run scored and he stole four bases. Second baseman Quenten Curtis went 2-3 with two singles, two runs scored, one RBI, one walk
Logan Caudill went 2-4 with two singles, one run scored and two RBIs. Right fielder Hunter Koehn went 1-4 with a single and a run scored and a stolen base. First baseman Riley Reece went 1-4 with a single and an RBI. Third baseman Preston Lane went 1-3 with a double. Ryder McGee scored a run.
Pitcher Aidan Mundt went 0-2 with a walk. Kaden Fitzgerald scored two runs and had one walk.
Chariton scored two runs in the top of the second to go up 2-0. Davis County scored one run in the bottom of the inning to cut it to 2-1. Chariton scored once in the third to go up 3-1, but the Mustangs scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 4-3 after the third inning.
Davis County scored once more in the fourth to go up 5-3. Chariton rallied to score runs in the fifth and sixth to tie it at five apiece. Davis County scored once in the bottom of the sixth to go up 6-5 with one inning remaining.
Chariton lit up the scoreboard with five runs in the top of the seventh to go up 10-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh Davis County scored three runs to cut it to 10-9 but they couldn’t get any more runs across.
Mundt got the win on the mound for Chariton. In five and 1/3 innings he gave up six runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out none and walking two. Cain pitched one inning and gave up one hit and no runs while striking out none and walking none.
