The Chariton High School Athletic Department is excited to announce the appointment of Ms. Kari Dyer as the new varsity girls tennis coach. Dyer’s coaching position was approved at the June District School Board meeting.
Dyer has been a science teacher in the Chariton Community School District for six years. Currently, Dyer teaches Chemistry, Physics, and Physical Science at Chariton High School, and has served as the middle school girls track coach.
Prior to her teaching career in Chariton, Dyer was a teacher and coach at Storm lake High School, where she also coached varsity girls swimming for five years. During her tenure at Storm Lake, she grew the program from single-digit participants to nearly 30 in her last year there.
When asked about her interest in the girls tennis position, Dyer replied, “I was interested in coaching girls tennis in Chariton because of my passion for tennis and my desire to encourage and foster others to become interested in the sport.”
Chariton Activities Director Tim Milledge had this to say about the appointment of Dyer to the position.
“Ms. Dyer is an excellent teacher in the District and she has been a highly effective coach for us as well. She has been a great fit at Chariton High School and I am confident that she will be a great fit in the girls tennis position too. She has a proven track record of building great relationships with the kids and she has experienced growing a program at the varsity level while coaching at Storm Lake. I am excited to see what she will bring to our program at Chariton.”
Ms. Dyer added, “I am most excited about working with the girls that are already playing tennis and encouraging others to give tennis a try. I have really enjoyed my time working with middle school athletes and I am excited to bring my enthusiasm to high school athletics. This will be a new challenge for me, but I am excited for the opportunity!”
