The Chariton boys tennis team kept up their strong play with a 7-2 win over Clarke at Osceola Thursday, April 22. It was the second win over the Indians this season for the Charger boys, who moved to 5-2 overall.
“It’s hard to play a team you’ve beaten before, but we were able to stay focused and put them away when we needed to,” Chariton Head Coach Brian Zimmerli said.
In Varsity singles play, in the #1 match, Ethan Poling lost to John Reynoldson, 0-8. At #2, Mark Pyatak defeated Chris Carson, 8-3. At #3 Dicen Blum beat McCormick Evink, 8-1. At #4 Spencer Smith defeated Clayton Abbas, 8-0.
In the #5 match, Ryan Grother beat RJ McCoy, 8-5. At #6, Blane Wallace beat J.D. Stintsman, 8-3.
In Varsity doubles play, in the #1 match the team of Ethan Poling/Pyatak lost to the team of Reynoldson/Carson, 4-8. In the #2 match the team of Blum/Smith beat the team of Evink/Abbas, 8-4. In the #3 match, the team of Grother/Wallace defeated the team of McCoy/Andrew Johnson, 8-2.
In JV singles action, Zach Poling of Chariton beat Bryce Johnson, 2-0. Michael Chester of Chariton lost to McCormick Evink, 0-2.
In JV doubles play, Chariton’s team of Zach Poling/Chester beat the team of JD Sitzman/Johnson, 4-3. Chariton’s team of Kade Williams/Gage Hart beat the team of J.D. Sitzman/Johnson, 4-0.
