The Chariton freshmen football tem traveled to Eddyville to take on the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Rockets Friday, Sept. 3. The game was a hard fought battle that ended in a 12- loss for the 9th Chargers.

The Charger offense amassed 209 yards on 46 plays and were led by sophomore Cameron Phipps, who stepped in due to an injury-plagued backfield.

Kenton Jensen put the Chargers on the board with a three-yard touchdown run, then caught a two-point conversion pass from Quinten Gruwell.

At quarterback, Gruwell went 8-20 passing with 108 yards and one interception. Keenan Herron led the freshmen receivers with three catches for 56 yards. Cayden Schlutz had three catches for 47 yards.

Carver Mason led the defense with seven tackles. Jensen, Ilya Blidchenko and Herron contributed six tackles each. Blidchenko also recovered a fumble and Herron was able to grab an interception for the Charger defense.

Despite a good defensive performance, the Charger freshmen were unable to pull out the victory.
