The Chariton girls cross country team began their season with a bang by being the champions of the Wayne meet at Corydon Sept. 3.
The CHS girls took home the championship plaque as a team and had four individual medalists including Mlanna Primakov-fourth overall, Emerson Fehrer-fifth, Sailor Anderson-eighth and Haddon Anderson-15th.
Chariton won the overall Girls team standings with 48 points. Mount Ayr was second with 59 and Albia was third with 74. Central Decatur was fourth with 88 and Wayne was fifth with 126. Pleasantville was sixth with 139 and East Union was seventh with 140.
Melcher-Dallas, Southeast Warren, Moravia, Lenox, Clarke and Centerville didn’t have enough runners to register a team score.
Chariton’s top seven runners at the Wayne meet will be running Varsity this Tuesday at Central Decatur.
“Thursday was an excellent night to run. We ran a good race; it was pretty warm and Corydon’s course is a pretty tough one to start out on. I was really pleased that the girls ran in a group and did what they needed to do as a team in their first race of the season,” Chariton Head Coach Tom Anderson said.
Milanna Primakov led Chariton placing fourth overall in 23:19.02. Emerson Fehrer placed fifth in 23:20.35. Sailor Anderson placed eighth in 24:06.70 and Haddon Anderson placed 15th in 24:42.
