The Chariton 7th grade boys basketball A team defeated Centerville. 46-9, in their season opener at Chariton Tuesday, Nov. 16. Connor Shore led Chariton in scoring with 14 points.
“This was a great way to start our season. Centerville played a 2-3 zone against us the entire game. We haven’t spent any time practicing against a 2-3 zone over the past couple of weeks in practice, so it was really impressive to see kids adapt to new positions during the game,” Chariton Head Coach Jacob Nethers said.
“Connor Shore did a great job of commanding our offense and playing solid defense on their primary ball handler. Grady Smyser knocked down a couple of jump shots that really helped spread Centerville’s defensive zone. Landon Chipp and Brody Krutsinger did a great job of crashing the offensive and defensive glass,” Coach Nethers said.
The Chargers limited Centerville to very few second chance opportunities. The Chariton bench also contributed a lot as well.
“I was also really proud of our subs coming off the bench. They did a great job of communicating who they were guarding on defense and brought great energy on both ends of the floor. Overall, this was a great team victory. We have a long season ahead of us, but I’m really proud of this group starting the season the right way. I expect us to continue to improve every day and hopefully we can build upon this game and have an excellent season,” Coach Nethers said.
