Varsity Charger baseball team beats Clarke in  season opener at home

The Chariton Varsity baseball team’s season got off to a successful start with a 4-1 win over Clarke at Chariton June 15.

The Indians got on the board first in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Chariton evened it up with a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Chargers added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 4-1 and held on for the win.

Chariton had six hits and committed just one error defensively. Clarke had five hits and committed three errors. Chariton left six men on base while Clarke left seven.

Ashton Vitale and Aidan Mundt both pitched well for Chariton and Vitale started and got the win. Vitale pitched six innings and gave up one earned run on five hits while striking out four and walking three. Mundt pitched one inning and gave u p no runs and no hits while striking out two and walking none.

Right fielder Logan Caudill went 2-3 with two singles and he stole a base, Center fielder Dylan Cain went 1-3 with a single and a run scored and he stole a base. First baseman Riley Reece went 1-3 with a single. Second baseman Quenten Curtis went 1-3 with a single, a run scored and an RBI.
