After falling behind early, the Chariton Varsity baseball team rallied late to beat Centerville, 7-3, in nine innings at Centerville July 6.

The Big Reds scored once in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. Chariton scored once in the top of the fourth to cut it to 2-1. The score remained the same until the top of the seventh when Chariton scored two more runs to take a 3-2 lead.

Centerville rallied to score the tying run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. The score remained tied until the top of the ninth when Chariton scored four runs to take a 7-3 lead. They held Centerville scoreless in the bottom of the ninth to get the win.

Aidan Mundt got the win on the mound. In five and 2/3 innings he gave up one run, which was earned, on three hits while striking out four and walking one. Ashton Vitale also pitched and in three and 1/3 innings he gave up two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out four and walking two.

Chariton had eight hits and committed three errors. Centerville had nine hits and committed four errors. Each team left 10 runners on base.

Center field Dylan Cain went 2-2 with a triple and a single. Left fielder Will Swarthout went 2-5 with a double, single, one run scored, one RBI and ones stolen base.

Right fielder Alex Bates went 1-2 with a single, two runs scored and a sacrifice. Shortstop Quenten Curtis went 1-3 with a single, one run scored and a walk. He also had a sacrifice. First baseman Riley Reece went 1-4 with a single, two RBIs and a walk.
