The Chariton JV2 boys basketball team got off to a good start but fell to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, 56-22, at Eddyville Tuesday, Jan. 5.
Kasyn Paige went 2-4 from three-point range to finish with a team-high 10 points to go along with three rebounds and one steal. Connor Briggs had four points, a team-high seven rebounds, one steal and two blocks. Bode Druckenmiller had three points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
“Our first quarter of play tonight was the best we have had this year. The kids played tough defense and did some really nice things on the offensive end to keep us close. There are moments during a game that they do so many good things; we just need to be able to put those together consistently. Our goal has been to get better every game, and the boys took a step in the right direction again tonight,” Chariton Head Coach Tim Milledge said.
Chariton came out strong offensively and trailed just 15-10 after one period. EBF outscored Chariton 12-4 in the second period to lead 27-14 at halftime. The Rockets were strong at both ends in the second half outscoring Chariton 17-3 in the third and 14-5 in the fourth.
Gunnar Clark had two points, one rebound and two steals. Dreavin Shenefield had two points. Mitchell Swarthout had one point and one rebound. John David Miller had two rebounds and one steal. Drake Entrekin had two rebounds and Mitchell Swarthout and Carson Oxenreider had one rebound apiece.
For the game, Chariton shot 7-26, 27 percent, from inside the arc and 2-8, 25 percent, from three-point range. The JV2 Chargers shot 2-10, 20 percent, from the line. Chariton pulled down 20 rebounds including 14 defensive boards. Chariton had three assists and 22 turnovers along with seven steals and two blocks. The JV2 Chargers committed five fouls.
