The Chariton JV softball team used a strong team effort to beat Centerville, 13-5, at Centerville this past Wednesday night. Chariton pounded out 11 hits and committed just two errors while Centerville committed nine errors to make it a rout in favor of Chariton.
“Everyone did their part to make this game a success on offense and defense. Brenna Shriver did a great job on the mound and Hannah Schlutz dominated at the plate with three hits, four runs scored and two RBIs.
Shriver pitched all seven innings and got the win. She gave up five runs, three earned, on nine hits while striking out five and walking one.
Chariton jumped ahead early with four runs in the first and one in the top of the second to take an early 5-0 lead. Centerville scored once in the bottom of the second but Chariton scored our more in the third and one more in the fourth to take a 10-1 lead.
Centerville scored two more in the fourth to cut it to 10-3. The Chariton JV girls responded with two more runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to go up 13-3. Centerville scored twice more in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t get any closer.
At the plate, Schlutz went 3-5 with three singles, four runs scored, two RBIs and she reached base on error once. Shriver went 2-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a sacrifice fly. Tayah Spiker went 2-5 two singles, three runs scored and an RBI. She also reached base on error twice and stole three bases.
