The Chariton Varsity wrestlers did very well in advancing two wrestlers on to Districts at the IHSAA Class 2A Sectionals 6 tournament at Winterset this past Saturday, Feb. 6.

The top two wrestlers in each weight class advance to Districts and Jacob Chapman placed second overall at 113 pounds and Jayden Allen-Winston placed second overall at 195 pounds to both advance to the District meet at Creston this Saturday. The District meet at Creston will start at noon on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Blake Sharp just missed advancing to Districts by placing third at 106 pounds. Dallas Furman placed fourth at 285. Chariton had three wrestlers place fifth at sectionals including Everett Garner at 126, Zach Young at 152 and J.R. McDonough at 220. Tyler Govaert placed sixth at 160.

Host Winterset won the 2A sectionals 6 team standings with 266 points. Atlantic-CAM was second with 238 and Panorama was third with 138.5. Central Decatur was fourth with 98.5 and Clarke was fifth with 96. Chariton was sixth with 83 points.

At 113, Chapman (14-10) received a bye in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, Chapman pinned Cruz Weaver of Atlantic-CAM in 1:21. In the first place match, Chapman was pinned by Zeke Hoven of Winterset in 51 seconds. In the second match match, Chapman won by no contest over Cruz Weaver of Atlantic-CAM to finish second.

At 195, Allen-Winston (26-7) pinned Keyton Van Gundy of Panorama in the quarterfinal in 1:43. In the semifinals Allen-Winston won by a 14-13 decision in a barnburner of a match over Carter Smuck of Winterset.

In the 1st place match, Allen-Winston lost by a 10-0 major decision to Teagn Carson of Central Decatur, who has a season record of 45-3. In the second place match, Allen-Winston won by no contest over Carter Smuck of Winterset to finish second.

At 106, Sharp (14-10) received a bye in the quarterfinal. In the quarterfinal Sharp was pinned by Clevi Johnson of Atlantic-CAM in 2:22. In the third place match Sharp received a bye. In the second place match, Sharp lost by no contest to Clevi Johnson of Atlantic-CAM to finish third.

At 285, Furman (7-17) pinned Jared Henderson of Panorama in 5:12 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal, Furman was pinned by Dugan Tolley of Winterset in 18 seconds. Tolley has a season record of 32-3. In the third place match, Furman lost by a 15-1 major decision to Will Smith of Clarke to finish fourth.

At 126, Garner (1-5) was pinned by Logan Christie of Panorama in the quarterfinal in 32 seconds. In the consolation semis, Garner received a bye. In the fifth place match, Garner received a bye to finish fifth.

At 152, Young (5-15) was pinned by Mason Fry of Clarke in the quarterfinal in 14 seconds. In the consolation semis, Young received a bye. In the fifth place match Young pinned Odin Rivera of Central Decatur in 50 seconds to finish fifth.

At 220, McDonough (7-13) was pinned in the quarterfinal by Henry Tromba of Winterset in 49 seconds. In the consolation semis, McDonough received a bye. In the fifth place match, McDonough received a bye to finish fifth.

At 160, Govaert (4-17) was pinned by Jarrett Armstrong of Atlantic-CAM in the quarterfinals in 34 seconds. In the consolation semis, Govaert received a bye. In the fifth place match, Govaert was pinned by KJ Fry of Clarke in 20 seconds to finish sixth.
