CHS hosts ADM on Sr. Night Friday

Two big innings by Knoxville were the story in the Chariton Varsity girls 9-0 loss to the Panthers at Knoxville this past Thursday night. Eight of the nine runs Knoxville scored came in the fourth and fifth innings.

“Knoxville is a great hitting team. After the three errors in the first inning, we settled down and played solid defense,” Chariton Head Coach Deb Seuferer said.

With the loss, Chariton moved to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the conference. Chariton hosts ADM, Adel for Senior Night this Friday night, July 10. The JV game will be played first at 6 p.m. with the Varsity game to follow.

Against Knoxville, the Lady Panthers scored once in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Knoxville scored three runs to go up 4-0. The Panthers added five more runs in the fifth to push the lead to 9-0.

Layne Braby pitched well in defeat and pitched the whole game. In six innings she gave up nine runs, eight earned, on 14 hits while striking out none and walking three. After the first inning, Chariton didn’t commit any errors.

Chariton struggled at the plate with just one hit, two walks and four strikeouts. Shortstop Abby Doran went 1-3 with a single and a stolen base. First baseman Mckenzie Snook went 0-3. Braby went 0-2 with a walk.

Center fielder Savannah Williams went 0-2. Catcher Addie McGee went 0-3. Left fielder Brenna Shriver went 0-3. Second baseman Riley Mackey went 0-2. Right fielder Hannah Schlutz went 0-2. Third baseman Peyton Ruble had a walk and was hit by a pitch.
