Hunter Koehn goes 4-4 with a triple and three doubles

A big fourth and fifth inning propelled the Chariton Varsity baseball team to an 11-7 win over Albia at Chariton June 29. The Chargers scored nine runs in those two innings combined and pounded out 15 hits in the game to get the win.

Right fielder Hunter Koehn had a huge gain offensively going 4-4 with a triple and three doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs. Center fielder Dylan Cain also had a big game going 3-4 with three singles and two runs scored. Catcher AJ Price went 3-4 with three singles and three RBIs.

Shortstop Jackson Curnutte went 2-4 with a double, single and two RBIs. Will Swarthout went 1-4 with a single and a run scored. First baseman Riley Reece went 1-4 with a single, two runs scored and one RBI. Third baseman Logan Caudill went 1-3 with a single and an RBI. Third baseman Preston Lane went 0-1.

Second baseman Quenten Curtis went 0-1 with a run scored, a walk and he was hit by a pitch. Second baseman Tyler Bailiff went 0-1. Kaden Fitzgerald went 0-3 with a run scored. Courtesy runner Alex Bates scored a run and stole a base.

Albia scored once in the first and twice in the third to take an early 3-0 lead. Chariton scored once in the bottom of the third to cut it to 3-1. The Chargers scored three runs in the fourth to take a4-3 lead. Albia scored once in the top of the fifth to tie it at four apiece, but the Chargers erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 10-4.

Chariton scored again in the bottom of the sixth to make the lead 11-4. Albia rallied to score three runs in the top of the seventh to cut it to 11-7 but couldn’t get any closer.
