Ralph Conner, Jr. peacefully passed away on May 16, 2023, in Chariton, Iowa. Services will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. A luncheon will follow the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Chariton. Family will receive friends on Sunday, May 21, 2023, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., at the funeral home. A Rosary Prayer Service will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Memorials may be made in Ralph’s name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chariton or to the Derby Volunteer Fire Department.

He was born on August 15, 1936, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to parents Ralph and Jean. The family moved to Iowa and he attended school in Derby, Iowa, graduating from Derby High School in 1954 and became a graphic artist for the Hy-Vee Printshop for 40 years.

More than just a career man, Ralph had cherished hobbies that he devoted much of his free time to. He enjoyed woodworking, painting, drawing, gardening, fishing, and working on the computer. He had a curious mind and found joy in learning new things.

Ralph's proudest accomplishments include being Mayor of Derby for an impressive 45 years - a feat that showcased his dedication to serving his community; he was also a longtime member of the Derby Fire Department. His contributions made Derby a better place to live.

Ralph is survived by daughters, Vicki (Norma Rush) Conner and Lori (Tom) Nielsen; grandchildren: Elizabeth Swanson, Sarah Nielsen, and Hannah Nielsen; a great-granddaughter, Mia Sorensen; as well as his sister Kathy (Bob) Willits. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, and two infant siblings.

Ralph has left quite the impression on the world around him - he will be remembered not only for his lasting contributions to Derby, but also for being an exceptional husband, dad, grandpa, friend, community leader and an all-around great person who quietly went about his life with unwavering kindness.
