The Chariton School Board approved three contracts for 2021-22 and three resignations at the special meeting they had Tuesday, May 18.

The board approved a contract for Abbee (Curran) Nielsen to be a fourth grade teacher at Van Allen Elementary. Nielsen is from Chariton and is a 2012 graduate of Chariton High School. She was formerly the director of HOPE Learning Center in Chariton. Nielsen is the daughter of Mike and Kellee Curran.

The board approved a contract for Chelsea Smith to be a second grade teacher at Columbus Elementary. The board also approved the resignation of Columbus Elementary second grade teacher Alisha Partika.

The board approved a contract for Caroline Hunkele to be the new Football Cheer Sponsor at Chariton High School. Hunkele was the basketball cheer sponsor at CHS this past winter and the board approved Hunkele’s resignation as basketball cheer sponsor at the meeting as well.

Hunkele is also a Chariton native and a 2014 graduate of Chariton High School. She is the daughter of Tom and Charlotte Hunkele and she’s also a second grade teacher at Columbus Elementary.

The board also approved the resignation of Central Office Secretary/Payroll Specialist Pam Buck at the meeting. Buck’s last day of work will be June 30, 2021.

There won’t be a replacement hired to fill Buck’s position. District Business Manager/Board Secretary Kylie Dittmer will be taking on the payroll duties.

The secretary’s report and bills were also approved.

New bank signers approved

Due to Buck’s resignation, new signers needed to be added to the Chariton Community School District bank accounts. The board approved to add Peggy White and Tracy Adolphi as the new signers to the CCSD bank accounts. White is the Superintendent’s administrative assistant and Adolphi is a secretary at the District office.
