The Chariton Dollar General held a ribbon cutting Wednesday, March 24 to celebrate the store’s remodel.

According to store manager Michele Fenton, Dollar General first opened in Chariton in May of 1989 and was first located on the Square. The current store is their fourth location in town and was built in 2011.

This remodel took one week to complete and according to Fenton the store is now considered a health store as it will carry things like protein shakes and powders and health snacks as well as other products.

Fenton said the biggest changes are the way the aisles have been opened up and the amount of new products being offered.

“Everybody keeps saying you’ve got a lot more stuff in here,” said Fenton. “I’m just so glad Dollar General ... upgraded their store.”

“They set up new racks, they brought in new coolers, they brought in like 15 people from an outsource team that moved all the stuff and then of course my people were here working too,” said Fenton.

Fenton was hired as manager when the store first opened and has been with them for 31 years. She will celebrate her 32nd anniversary next month
