The Lucas County Board of Supervisors held their first meeting of the New Year Monday, Jan. 4. The supervisors reorganized for 2021 appointing Cathy Reece as chairman and Dennis Smith as vice chairman.

The board approved to designate the Chariton Leader as the official newspaper for Lucas County for 2021.

A resolution was approved appointing the supervisors as representatives of the Lucas County Board of Supervisors to serve on various committees, boards and organizations.

The board appointed supervisor Dennis Smith to be designated to serve on the 5th Judicial District Board of Directors as the representative for Lucas County, Iowa and for supervisor Cathy Reece to be the alternate for a one-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2021.

David J. Randall was re-appointed to the Lucas County Conservation Board for a five-year term starting Jan. 1, 2021, and ending Dec. 31, 2026.

The board approved the re-appointment of Patti Bisgard to serve on the Lucas County Board of Health for a three-year term effective Jan. 1, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2023.

The board approved the Lucas County Investment Policy for 2021. The policy is on file at the Lucas County Auditor’s office at the courthouse.

Master Matrix resolution approved

The Master Matrix resolution relating to the construction of a confinement feeding operation structure was also approved.

By adopting the Master Matrix resolution, the board of supervisors agreed to evaluate every construction permit application for a proposed confinement feeding operation structure received by the board of supervisors between Feb. 1, 2021, and Jan. 31, 2022. The board also agreed to submit an adopted recommendation regarding each application to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Liquor licenses approved

The board approved a couple of liquor licenses. The first was a Class C liquor license (LC) Commercial for Lakeview Golf & Country Club in Chariton for one year from Dec. 6, 2020, through Dec. 5, 2021.

The second liquor license approved was for a Class B Native Wine Permit (WBN) for the Frontier Trading Post in Chariton for one year from Feb. 1, 2021, through Jan. 31, 2022.

Supervisor Cathy Reece announced that the next Lucas County Board of Supervisors’ meeting would be Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 10 a.m. at the Lucas County Courthouse in Chariton. She also announced that the Clerk of Court’s office at the Lucas County Courthouse would be closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday, Jan. 18, but that the rest of the offices there would be open that day.
