At their meeting Monday, April 5, the Chariton City Council approved the appointment of Vicky Black to the Housing Board of Chariton at the request of Chariton Mayor Denny Bisgard.

The term will cover the rest of John Braida’s term until August 2021 and the following two years until August 2023.

“I’ve talked to Vicky and had a great discussion with her and I think she’ll be a great advocate for that group,” Mayor Bisgard said.

The board also approved a resolution for the extension of the fire protection agreement for Liberty Township in Lucas County for an additional two years ending on Dec. 31, 2022.

New Park and Rec Supervisor hired

In her City Manager’s report, Chariton City Manager Laura Liegois announced that a new Park and Recreation Supervisor has been hired for the City of Chariton. The new supervisor will be Taylor Andrews of Osceola and he will start as the new Par and Rec. Supervisor on Monday, May 3.

Liegois also told the council that the Chariton Volunteer Fire Department was doing their election of officers on Thursday, April 8, and that the city council members were invited to attend the election.

During the city council member comments, council member Mike Loew said that he was told there’s some loose or missing bolts on the playground equipment at Yocom Park. Liegois said she has since turned over this matter to the Chariton Street Department.

Council member Steve Fenton commented that there are a lot of potholes in the City of Chariton.
