The Chariton City Council approved by resolution the contract and bond for the Chariton Splash Pad project at their meeting June 6.

At their May 16 meeting, the council awarded the Splash Pad project to Minturn, Inc. of Brooklyn, Iowa, for $319,875. The next step following the awarding of the contract was to present the contract and bond for approval to the Chariton City Council.

“Will they get the Splash Pad done this season?” Chariton Mayor Jayma Hoch asked.

Chariton City Manager Laura Liegois said they hope to get the project done before the end of this season.

Liegois said that construction on the project is scheduled to start in early August. “We are waiting for water features that are still in production to get finished. Hopefully the Splash Pad will be done by late September so we can use it some in late September and early October. It can be warm in early October,” Liegois told the newspaper late this past week.

The Splash Pad will be located in the old sand pit by the swimming pool.

Mayor’s recommendation for Planning and Zoning Commission approved

At Mayor Hoch’s recommendation, the council approved the re-appointment of Greg (Buzzy) Linn to the Chariton Planning and Zoning Commission.

In her City Manager’s report, Liegois reported on construction going on in the City of Chariton.

“We have quite a bit of construction going on in Chariton. The Chariton Water Department has it’s water main project going on. Next week, we hope to have work done on Chariton City Hall including tuck pointing to be done and brick removal being done at the top of the building and the seal coating of the bricks,” Liegois said.
