The Chariton City Council approved a tax abatement to Tracy and Angela Taylor for the construction of their new home at 1105 Lucas Ave. in Chariton.

As is stated in the Chariton City Code, Chapter 3.08.040, Section 3.C, “Residential properties may be exempt of the first $75,000 of value of a new home that’s constructured, over a period of three years. It is broken into the following exemptions:

• First year-75 percent exemption

• Second year-50 percent exemption

• Third year-25 percent exemption

The Taylors’ new home was completed in September 2021. Chariton city staff reviewed the information that was submitted by the Taylors and they recommended the tax abatement be approved.

After Prom Committee request approved

The council also approved the request of the Chariton After Prom Committee to use the Chariton Community Center for the After Prom Party event starting on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 7 a.m. until Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 10 a.m. The council also waived the fees for the use of the community center.
