Strong performances in the relays and the distance runs propelled the Chariton girls track team to a third place finish at the Centerville Relays April 4. The Lady Chargers won titles in the 3,000 and 1,500 meter runs along with the 4 x 800 and distance medley relays.

Chariton placed second overall in the 4 x 200 relay and third in the sprint medley relay and the 800-meter run. They placed fourth in the shot put, 400-meter dash, 400-meter hurdles and the shuttle hurdle relay. They placed fifth in the 4 x 400 relay.

As a team, Chariton placed third overall out of eight teams with 90 points. Davis County was first with 117.25 points. Central Decatur was second with 97 points. Wayne was fourth with 86.25 and Centerville was fifth with 70.5. Keokuk was sixth with 69. Scotland, Co. (Mo.) was seventh with 29 and Seymour was eighth with 26.

Lubove Vahnenko won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 13:18.4. Haylee Sonius placed fourth overall in 14:18.55.

Ruth Vahnenko was first overall in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:47.39. Lubove Vahnenko placed fourth overall in 6:12.76.

In the 4 x 800 relay, Chariton’s team of Ruth Vahnenko (2:42), Sailor Anderson (2:54.38), Cheyenne Michael (3:03.14) and Avery Hall (2:39.23) placed first in 11:22.44.

In the distance medley relay, the team of Emma Cochran (32.76), Erin Payton (29.91), Grace Bengtson (1:06.52) and Ruth Vahnenko (2:46.96) placed first overall in 4:56.66.

In the 4 x 200 relay, the team of Payton (29.84), Taylan Thomas (31.56), Leah Doran (33.53) and Bengtson (26.94) placed second in 2:02.26.
