Vahnenko wins 3,000 race at Eddy Girls Relays

The Chariton girls track team competed at the 37th annual Eddy Girls Relays at Eddyville Tuesday night.

Chariton had one champion, Lubove Vahnenko, who won the 3,000-meter run in 13:07. Angel Blagsvedt was eighth in 14:20.36

The Lady Chargers recorded second place finishes in the 800-meter run, sprint medley relay, 4 x 800 relay, 400-meter hurdles and the 4 x 400 relay. They also recorded a third-place finish in the 1,500-meter run and distance medley relay and fourth place finishes in the high jump and discus and 400-meter dash.

As a team Chariton placed fourth overall out of seven teams with 82 points.

In the 800-meter run, Ruth Vahnenko placed second overall in 2:40.5. Taytum Bacus was ninth in 2:55.6. In the sprint medley relay, the team of Emma Cochran (14.77), Taylan Thomas (13.6), Luci Swarthout (28.18) and Grace Bengtson (1:05.85) placed second overall in 2:02.68.

In the 4 x 800 relay, the team of Ruth Vahnenko (2:41), Taytum Bacus (2:59), Bailey Shelton (3:07) and Clara Stuart (2:45) placed second in 11:35.16. In the 4 x 400 meter relay, the team of Bengtson (1:08.7), Swarthout (1:08.43), Ruth Vahnenko (1:11) and Stuart (1:09.36) placed second in 4:38.15.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Swarthout placed second overall in 71.20. Cochran was fifth in 76.29.

In the 1,500-meter run Lubove Vahnenko placed third overall in 6:12.89. Haylee Sonius placed sixth overall in 6:24.87. In the distance medley relay, the team of Cochran (29.93), Thomas (30.02), Stuart (1:08) and Ruth Vahnenko (2:40) placed third overall in 4:49.15.

In the high jump, Swarthout placed fourth with a jump of 4’6”. Thomas placed sixth with a jump of 4’6”. In the 400-meter dash, Bengtson placed fourth in 67.88. Sonius was eighth in 76.89.

In the discus, Amara Fisher placed fourth overall with a throw of 90’9”. Tori Good placed 13th with a throw of 61’8”.
