The Chariton JV softball team showed improvement in a 7-2 loss to Albia at Chariton June 3.
The game was scoreless after the first two innings. Albia scored one run in the third and one in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Chariton scored once in the bottom of the fourth to make it 2-1.
Albia added three more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. Chariton scored once in the bottom of the sixth to cut it to 5-2, but Albia answered with two more runs in the top of the seventh and held on to win by five.
“The team showed great progress this game. We are getting better every time we play,” Chariton JV Head Coach Hally Gass said.
One area where Chariton struggled was with strikeouts at the plate. They had 14 strikeouts while Albia had only two. Chariton had four hits, two walks and two RBIs and Albia had six hits, four walks and two RBIs. Each team left six runners on base.
Chariton committed four errors defensively and Albia committed one.
Brenna Shriver pitched the whole game for Chariton and took the loss on the mound. In seven innings she gave up seven runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out two and walking four.
