William “Bill” Ray Montgomery, 67, passed into his heavenly home on Oct. 4, 2019, at the Legacy Lodge Hospice House in Chariton. Bill was born on June 10, 1952, in Bloomfield, Iowa, the son of William and Irma (Carson) Montgomery.
Bill graduated from Chariton High School. He took classes to be a chef at Ottumwa and then worked there, as a chef. He worked at the Chariton Specialty Care Center in Chariton for 37 years before retiring. Bill loved attending Sprint Car races in Knoxville. His favorite drivers were Terry McCarl, Doug Wolfgang and Skip Jackson.
Bill is survived by his wife, of 33 years, Audrey Montgomery of Chariton; two sisters-in-laws, Diana (David) Schmiedeke of Des Moines, Iowa and Rev. Janice (John) Diefenthaler of Evansville, Wisc. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Neil Montgomery.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ, 300 N. 8th St., in Chariton. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to the family or to the Legacy Lodge Hospice in Chariton.
