Jane Rankin

Services for Jane Rankin, of Chariton, were held Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family received friends on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019, from 5 until 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment was at the Chariton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Legacy Lodge or Missions through Grace Baptist Church.

Mary Jane Davis was born Aug. 2, 1943 to Gilmore and Ruby Davis in Weeping Water, Neb. Jane was one of four daughters born to the couple. She moved to Des Moines at the age of 16 and graduated from North High School in 1961.

In her younger years, Jane worked as a waitress. She began working on local farms and quickly grew to love the work. She enjoyed working with animals and milking cows.

Jane was united in marriage to Garold Rankin on Aug. 27, 1987. They were the proud parents of ten children: Bill, Darla, Chuck, Natalie, Randy, Jenny, Jody, Janice, Jayne, and Jinger. The couple became foster parents and fostered many children over the years.

Jane was a wonderful cook and loved to cook for large family gatherings. She also enjoyed sewing and made many clothes over the years. Jane loved to travel, especially to the mountains. Above all else, Jane loved time spent with her family. Her constant smile and unfaltering strength will be greatly missed by so many.

Jane asked the Lord to become her personal Lord and Savior in 1973. She was baptized shortly after. Jane went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 24, 2019 at the age of 76. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Garold Rankin; 10 children: Bill (Leslie) Hickey, Darla (Scott) Collier, Chuck (Melody) Alsager, Natalie Brown, Randy Hickey, Jenny (Chuck) Alexander, Jody (Steve) McDonald, Janice (Dana) Jurgens, Jayne Rankin, and Jinger (Michael) Johnson; 29 grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Doris, Alice, and Linda; and an infant grandson.
