Ruth Ryan

Ruth Ryan passed away on Jan. 28, 2019 in Montrose, Colo. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Swanson Streicher and was born April 15, 1929 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She grew up on an Iowa farm, graduated from Ottumwa High School, Ottumwa Junior College and later obtained her degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Ruth was very active in 4-H and served as Iowa State 4-H Girls’ President from 1946- 47. She taught elementary education in Chariton, Iowa for 31 years. Baptism, confirmation, and marriage took place at Munterville Lutheran Church near Ottumwa, Iowa. Her husband Gerald (Gerry) L. Ryan of 52 years was deceased in December of 2002. In 1986 Ruth and Gerry moved to Arizona where they were in the antique business participating in shows in Arizona, California, and New Mexico. In Montrose Ruth was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, volunteered at Montrose Memorial Hospital for 13 years and was a participant in other senior activities.

Ruth is survived by her son David and his wife Jane of Montrose and a granddaughter Sarah of Gainesville, Florida; two sisters, Rosemary Peterson of Ottumwa, Iowa and Helen Eckheart of Racine, Wisconsin. Several cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, April 13 at 11 at Zion Lutheran Church, 701 South Junction Avenue, Montrose, Colo. A lunch will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the local recreation center foundation for activity scholarships for disadvantaged youth.
