Clifford Edward Amos, 79, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Chariton passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019 at his home in Mt. Pleasant.
Clifford was born on Jan. 13, 1940, in Chariton, the son of Roy and Engeline (Raveling) Amos. He joined the United States Air Force on Feb. 5, 1957. On March 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Nydia Torres in Puerto Rico, she preceded him in death on April 6, 2001. Clifford was honorable discharged on Feb. 5, 1963 after serving in the 72 D Bombardment Wing in Puerto Rico. After the service he was a professional baker for 12 years. He drove a school bus for Mt. Pleasant Community Schools and Fairfield Community Schools. On Aug. 3, 2001, he was united in marriage to Linda Greenfield. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a section worker and track inspector for 30 years retiring in 2003. Clifford enjoyed his ice cream, cookies, playing cribbage and most of all his family.
He is survived by his wife Linda of Mt. Pleasant, and his children, Martin (Nancy) Amos of Mt. Pleasant, Jess (Rebecca) Amos of Keota, Eric (Violet) Amos of Armada, MI, Raymond (Travis) Amos of Mediapolis, Jewell (Julia) Amos of Mt. Pleasant, his stepchildren, Terry (Kim) Jerrel of Mt. Pleasant, Bridgette Grijalva of Fairfield, Tammy Trenerry of Oklahoma City, Jason (Jennifer) Jerrel of Santa Maria, Calif., Carman Kaufman of Denmark and Holly Kaufman of Denver, Colo., seven grandchildren, Janeane, Laurie, David, Steven, Ivy, Miranda and Brittany, and one great grandchild, Dominick, 26 step grandchildren and 27 step great grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, James Amos of Albia, Dollie McGee of Chariton, John Amos of Chariton and Rosie Gee of Wellton, AZ.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Nydia and one brother, Fred Amos.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Veterans Club 103 South Jackson Street Mt. Pleasant. Military Honors will be conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard. Private burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
