Two drivers reach million-mile safe driving mark on same day
History was made in Chariton as the Chariton Hy-Vee Distribution Center for the first time had two truck drivers reach the one million mile mark without a preventable accident on the same day. The two drivers, Steve Lazear and Bob Kauffman, each reached the one million mile safe driving mark on Aug. 28 and were honored at a ceremony in front of the Hy-Vee Distribution Center offices this past Thursday.
Lazear became Chariton Hy-Vee’s 56th one million mile safe driver at 5 p.m. on Aug. 28 when he was on his way to Kansas City, Mo. He was 30 miles into Missouri when he reached the magical one-million mile mark. Kauffman became Chariton Hy-Vee’s 57th million-mile driver six hours later at 11 p.m. on Aug. 28 while he was driving on Interstate 29 south of Sioux City.
