Supervisors approve 3-year contract extension for engineer

At their meeting this past Wednesday, the Lucas County Board of Supervisors approved a three-year contract extension for Lucas County Engineer Todde Folkerts beginning July 1, 2018, and ending June 20, 2021.

The county engineer’s annual salary will be $99,960 in FY 2018-19, $101,960 for FY 2019-20, and $104,000 for FY 2020-21. Subsequent annual salaries will be negotiated by the board of supervisors and engineer prior to the submittal of the Secondary Road budget for that upcoming fiscal year.

The supervisors also set a budget amendment hearing for the current FY 2017-18 budget to be on Wednesday, May 16, at 9:45 a.m. in the supervisors’ room on the second floor of the Lucas County Courthouse.

Lucas County Development Corporation (LCDC) Executive Director Mariah Pierschbacher announced that Iowa U.S. Senator Joni Ernst will be speaking in the lower level of the Hotel Charitone building at 831 Braden Ave. on Tuesday, May 1, at 5 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Chariton Area Chamber/Main Street Executive Director Alyssa Trunck announced that the next sidewalk task force meeting will be held this Thursday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the Chamber/ Main Street office at 104 N. Grand on the east side of the square. Only the sidewalks on the square are discussed at the sidewalk task force meetings.

Trunck also said that the annual Clean Up Day will be held Wednesday, May 2.

Lucas County Assessor Tim McGee announced that a Conference Board meeting will be held this Tuesday, April 24, at 2 p.m. in the supervisors’ room at the courthouse to appoint a new board member. The Conference Board sets the budget for the county assessor and appoints board of review members.

In the secondary roads business, the board approved a motion that Brian Crozier change positions from Equipment Operator IV to crew foreman changing his rate of pay to $47,008 gross yearly effective April 23, 2018.
