New Chariton City Manager Laura Liegois (pronounced Lee-jus) of Muscatine started as the new city manager on Monday and sat in on her first city council meeting Monday night.

Liegois will relocate from Muscatine and move to Chariton and will live here during the week and either drive back on weekends or her family will drive here on weekends the first year she is here. Her husband Jason is a teacher in the Mediapolis School District and has one year left on his contract. Once Jason’s teaching contract is up he will join her and move to Chariton.

They have two children including a son who graduated from high school this year and a daughter who will graduate from high school next year.

The council briefly discussed and approved a Class B beer permit for Thelma Saxton, d/b/a Cater 2 U on the Chariton square the day RAGBRAI comes through Chariton on Wednesday, July 24.

The council approved the beer permit with the addition that all four inside corners of the square will be barricaded on that day when RAGBRAI comes through.

Saxton provided the council with a map of the square showing where she plans to be set up that day for RAGBRAI, which is the northwest part of the square.

The council also approved a separate Class B permit also for Saxton d/b/a Cater 2 U for the Fourth of July celebration on the Chariton square.

The council also accepted the resignation of Jerry Adcock from the Planning and Zoning Commission.
