One major news story of the third quarter of 2019 was a history making event as the first ever Dog Park opened in the City of Chariton at Franklin Park on Saturday, July 6. A Grand Opening and ribbon cutting was held for the event that day and following this people were able to use the new park with their dogs for the first time.
The Chariton Volunteer Fire Department set a new state record by winning the annual State Firemen’s Convention for the 10th straight year in Manchester. It broke Atlantic’s record of nine straight wins. Chariton’s current reign started in 2009 when they started in Dyersville and they hope to make it #11 at this year’s convention in 2020.
Another big event was Chariton serving as a pass through town for the 2019 RAGBRAI ride on Wednesday, July 24. The event was a big success with the way it was organized and went on the day it came through.

It was also announced that Seats Incorporated, a manufacturing firm headquartered in Reedsburg, Wisc., would be expanding to Chariton and would create 50 new jobs in Chariton by expanding its metal fabrications operation here.
Lucas County Health Center was presented with a national award naming it as one of the top 20 Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) for quality in the entire nation.
