The small town of Russell enjoyed a big day celebrating their annual Russell Days Fall Festival on Sept. 14.
The Russell volunteer firemen and the Russell City Council did a fine job of organizing the parade and day’s activities. The “Take Pride in Your Ride” car show had many vehicles on display all day with Chris Cook taking home “Best in Show” for his ’62 Chevy.
Throughout the day, individuals and teams used their barbecuing expertise to vie for prizes in the great “Smoke Off” competition. The results were as follows: “Chicken” – 1st place: Poling’s BBQ, 2nd place: Grumpy Tree, and 3rd Place: Gothic Town Grillers. “Pork” – 1st place: Gothic Town Grillers, 2nd Place: Polings BBQ, 3rd place: Smokin’ Express.
“Brisket” – 1st place: Polings BBQ, 2nd Place: Grumpy Tree, 3rd Place: Old Outlaw. “Ribs” – 1st place: Gothic Town Grillers, 2nd Place: Old Outlaw, 3rd Place: Wide Open BBQ.
The overall team winners for all four categories were 1st place: Poling’s BBQ, 2nd place: Gothic Town Grillers, and 3rd Place: Old Outlaw. The Best Dessert prizes went to Pharfum Smokin (1st place), Grumpy Tree (2nd place), and Rub a Dub (3rd place).
