At their meeting Dec. 9, the Chariton Water Board approved to renew a water department meter deposit CD they currently have at Great Western Bank in Chariton and for it to remain at the bank for 12 months at an interest rate of 1.1 percent.
The board decided to keep the CD at Great Western Bank because it had the highest interest rate of the three Chariton banks. The CD is titled Chariton Municipal Water Department and will require the signature of one water board member and one water department employee at the end of the 12-month period.
Decision to appoint new water department attorney tabled
The board also tabled action on hiring a new attorney for the Chariton Water Department.
At last month’s meeting, the board directed Board Chairman Evelyn Hull to make out a form letter stating requirements for the new water department attorney that she would send out to different candidates.
A total of 11 letters were sent out for the position on Nov. 25, but the water department only received two letters back, both of which were from qualified attorneys.
