Annual Chariton Fourth celebration is July 4-5

For two fabulous fun-filled days of events the whole family can enjoy, come check out the Chariton Fourth of July celebration this Thursday and Friday, July 4 and 5.

Thursday, July 4

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. on July 4 with the Garden Tractor pulls on N. Main St.

The Opening ceremony for the Fourth celebration will be held on the stage on the north side of the square at 10 a.m. It will feature the Chariton Cub Scouts doing a flag demonstration. The Fourth of July Memorial stage is broken, so both Johnson Machine Works and Hy-Vee in Chariton have sponsored the rental of a stage.

Also at 10 a.m., a reading of the Declaration of Independence followed by a ringing of the bell for freedom will be held at the Lucas County Veterans Memorial Park.

The Kiddie Races provided by the Kiwanis Club of Chariton will be held at Yocom Park at 10 a.m.

At 11 a.m. the Chariton Community Band will perform on the Larry Clark Memorial Gazebo on the courthouse lawn. The inflatables and the beer tent will also open at 11 a.m. on July 4.

The annual Fourth of July parade will be held at 1 p.m. To sign up for the parade, people can contact Mary Stierwalt at 641-774-5614.

At 2 p.m. a Cribbage tournament provided by the Kiwanis Club of Chariton will be held at the Chariton Senior Center. The bingo tent on the south courthouse lawn will be held at 2 p.m. as well.

Also at 2 p.m., the baby crawling contest and the parent/child look alike contest will be held on the stage on the north side of the square. The Kids Obstacle course put on by the Chariton Volunteer Fire Department will also be held on the square at 2 p.m.

At 3 p.m., the Chariton High School Drill Team will perform in the stage area on the square. At 4 p.m. Chariton’s Got Talent will perform on the stage or in the stage area as well. This event is sponsored by Chariton Area Chamber/Main Street.

From 4-7 p.m. Tom the Terrific Balloon Man will be walking around the square. The Chariton Fourth of July Committee is sponsoring this event.

The Celebrity Dunk Tank will be held from 6-8 p.m.

Jennifer Lynn Handling and the Revolution Band will be performing on the stage from 8 p.m. until midnight.

At 10 p.m. the Fireworks display will be put on at Northwest Park in Chariton. The fireworks display is sponsored by the Chariton Fourth of July Committee and is made possible by the Chariton Volunteer Fire Department.

Friday, July 5

On Friday, July 5, the festivities will open with Dance X-Pressions dance and tumbling studio in Chariton performing on the stage at 11 a.m.

The beer tent and the inflatables will also open at 11 a.m. The Celebrity Dunk Tank will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m.

The Lip Sync Contest will be held at 4 p.m. on the stage. The mechanical bull ride will also be held at 4 p.m. on the square. The bull ride is part of the $10 wristband that goes with the inflatables set up for people to use.

The Bathtub races will be held at 5 p.m. on Braden Avenue on the north side of the square. To sign up for the bathtub races, people can contact a Fourth of July Committee member or e-mail the committee at charitonfourthofjulycommittee@gmail.com.
