At their meeting Monday night, the Chariton City Council approved a resolution approving the contract and performance, payment and maintenance bonds for the 2019 Street Improvement Asphalt Overlay Project in Chariton.
At their July 15 meeting, the council awarded the contract for the Street Improvement Project to Norris Asphalt Paving Company of Ottumwa. The total amount of the contract is $299,662 and the city has $300,000 budgeted for the project.
Council approves waiving construction fees
The council also approved a resolution to waive construction fees for new single-family homes in Chariton for fiscal year or FY 2020.
Chariton City Manager Laura Liegois explained that during the 2019 fiscal year, the City of Chariton waived the construction permit fees for new single-family homes built in the Chariton city limits.
“It would be beneficial to continue this practice to continue new opportunities for our residents in Chariton. We have seen a successful start with new houses being built here. All permit holders will have to meet the building codes and have their structure completed in a timely manner. If they don’t, then the permit fees will apply,” Liegois said.
