At their meeting Monday night, the Chariton Community School Board approved three contracts for the 2019-20 school year.
The board approved a contract for Deidre Shea to be a new math teacher at Chariton High School and a contract for Myriah Vozenilek to be the new Spanish teacher at CHS.
The third contract approved was for Jamie Cochran to be the new High School Alternative Program teacher. Cochran is also the CHS Varsity wrestling coach and has been since 2017. Various athletic officials’ contracts were approved as well.
The board approved the resignation of Nic Dau as the High School Alternative Program teacher. Dau had also been the CHS 9th grade football coach and an assistant Varsity football coach. They also approved the resignation of Abby Hart as a Special Education teacher at Columbus Elementary.
The board also approved to appoint Kylie Dittmer to continue to serve as the Chariton School District’s Board Secretary and Treasurer for 2019-20.
They also approved to appoint Ahlers and Cooney Law Firm to serve as the Chariton School District’s Legal Counsel for 2019-20.
The board approved the first reading of the Teacher and Support Staff Handbooks. Superintendent Larry Achenbach pointed out the revisions/changes made to both handbooks.
In the Teacher staff book under Work Year it now states that the regular contract of employees shall be 188 days and employees will need a minimum of 1,080 teacher-student contact hours.
Under Employee Injury on the Job, the third paragraph now states “It is the responsibility of the employee injured on the job to contact the insurance on-call nurse... Further, it is the responsibility of the injured employee to report the injury to their immediate supervisor as soon as possible.”
