The 2019 Lucas County 4-H Fair Queen Contest was held at the indoor arena at the Lucas County Fairgrounds Friday night. The contest was moved along a little faster than normal due to the sweltering heat conditions.
The 2018 Iowa State Fair Queen, Hailey Swan of Bloomfield, was at the contest and spoke briefly. She also served as one of the judges for the contest along with her mother, Kelly Swan, and Ashley Druckenmiller of Chariton.
In the Senior Division, Ava DeMaria was crowned the 2019 Lucas County Fair Queen and she was also named Miss Congeniality. Sage Hildebrand was the first runner-up in the Senior Division.
In the Junior Division, Briley Atwell was crowned as the Junior Fair Queen and Macy Smith was named Junior Miss Congeniality.
In the Mr. and Miss Clover contest, Gaje Loynachan was named Mr. Clover and Landry Hall was named Miss Clover. The Mr. and Miss Clover recipients were each presented with a $50 check. Beaty Insurance in Russell sponsored Mr. Clover’s check and Club CSR Curran Seed and Realty of Adam and Sara Curran sponsored Miss Clover’s check.
Current State Fair Queen Hailey told everyone that she hoped they have a wonderful week at the Lucas County Fair and invited them to this year’s Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Aug. 8-18.
Candidates were asked several questions then judges then went out to deliberate. During the deliberation process, the crowd watched a slideshow showing photos of Lucas County Fair Queens from the past to the present.
