The Chariton Community School Board approved a number of contracts and resignations at their monthly meeting Monday night.
The board approved the transfer of Carie Steinhausen from fourth grade teacher to a Title I Instructor at Van Allen Elementary. They also approved the transfer of Trinity Thatcher from kindergarten teacher to a Title I Instructor at Columbus Elementary. Both transfers are effective for the 2020-21 school year.
The board also approved the transfer of Curt Smyser from teaching Physical Education (P.E.) at both elementary schools in Chariton to teaching P.E. at Chariton High School due to the retirement of long-time teacher and coach Deb Seuferer this summer
Smyser will take over Seuferer’s P.E. teaching position at the high school and he will teach with Josh Snook. Seuferer’s early retirement request was approved at last month’s school board meeting and she will still coach varsity softball this summer and will be done teaching and coaching when the softball season is over.
Contracts were also approved for Jay Pierschbacher to be the assistant varsity boys soccer coach for this spring and for Andrew St. Lawrence to be assistant varsity girls soccer coach.
The board also approved a contract for Bryce Exline to be a volunteer boys track coach at CHS for the 2019-20 school year. The volunteer coaches receive no payment or benefits from the Chariton Community School District.
