Chariton teen dies in high speed chase

Jacob Fejeran

A 19-year-old Chariton man lost his life Saturday night in Warren County while trying to elude authorities.

The Iowa State Patrol reported the crash happened just before midnight Sunday near Broadway and Border streets in New Virginia.

Jacob Fejeran, of Chariton, was westbound on G76 traveling at a high rate of speed in a Chevrolet pick-up, trying to evade an Iowa State Patrol trooper, according to a crash report.

Authorities said Fejeran ran a stop sign, vaulted over the street and hit a large tree in a residential yard.

Fejeran, who was the only one in the vehicle, died at the scene, authorities said.

Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Nathan Ludwig said Fejeran was caught speeding late Saturday night in Warren County. Instead of pulling over, he tried to elude a marked patrol vehicle with flashing lights in the town of New Virginia.
